…Of which we have virtually none.
That has been one of my favorite lines for years. Yes, I said “we”. I know I’m impatient. So how can so many people be oblivious to their own shortcomings in this area? It’s simple, our society rewards impatience.
Trust me, I’m only an expert on patience because it is something I have to work on daily.
We have become accustomed to instantaneous everything. Years ago, consuming information often meant a trip to the library and ours searching. All that can be replaced by a few keystrokes on the computer today.
We are so spoiled to everything being instant that we get irritated when a web page takes more than a few seconds to load. How soon we forget the days of dial-up modems when a basic web page could take a minute or more to load, and downloading a file took hours if not days.
Note that these paragraphs are really short because I know how we are. We often don’t have the patience to read through something if it looks long and daunting.
Fortunately, if you ever need a lesson in patience, just go to your nearest driver’s license office. They can teach patience better than Yoda and Mr. Miyagi combined.
I had a whole other section on how impatient people get on my nerves, but I don’t have the patience to go into it, and you probably wouldn’t have the patience to read it, so never mind.
